Reinforcement for Europe's digital sovereignty: Jutta Horstmann becomes Co-CEO of the Heinlein Group

The Heinlein Group is sending a strong signal for digital independence and resilience in Europe. From September 15, Jutta Horstmann will take on the role of Co-CEO and lead the Group into the future together with founder and Managing Director Peer Heinlein. With this dual leadership, the Group is reaffirming its claim to be an active shaper of sovereign communication and trustworthy IT infrastructures.

Digital sovereignty requires experience and a clear stance

For more than 30 years, the Heinlein Group has been developing solutions that focus on openness, security and independence. With Heinlein Support, mailbox, OpenTalk and OpenCloud, the Group provides central components for an independent digital infrastructure. "Jutta Horstmann not only shares the values and vision of the Heinlein Group - she has proven over many years that she can also effectively implement this approach in complex organizational structures. Her experience and strategic foresight are a great asset to us - especially at a time when open source and digital sovereignty are not just political buzzwords, but key building blocks of a resilient infrastructure," says Peer Heinlein, founder and Managing Director of the Heinlein Group.

Jutta Horstmann has been active in the open source community for decades and is very well connected. Most recently, she was Managing Director of the Center for Digital Sovereignty (ZenDiS). Prior to that, she was COO and CTO at the international tech company eyeo (Adblock Plus), where she was responsible for the technological realignment and growth to over 300 employees. Her commitment to digital sovereignty, digitalization for the common good, open source and sustainable organizational development makes her the ideal addition to the Heinlein Group.

"The Heinlein Group stands for the values that Europe needs now: Responsibility, transparency and technological independence," emphasizes Jutta Horstmann, Co-CEO the Heinlein Group. "Our vision is secure and free communication that connects people and organizations across Europe - across borders, based on open standards and with the highest level of security. I look forward to developing this vision further together with Peer Heinlein and the entire team - and to designing an independent technology stack for Germany and Europe."

Dual leadership for more digital resilience in Europe

The challenges of a networked world call for resilient IT structures that reduce dependencies and create trust. With the new dual leadership of Peer Heinlein and Jutta Horstmann, the Heinlein Group is further expanding its strategic role: as the shaper of an independent technology stack for Germany and Europe. The aim is to strengthen digital resilience in the long term - through open source, data sovereignty and transparent structures.

A strong foundation: Heinlein Support, mailbox, OpenTalk and OpenCloud

With its four companies, the Heinlein Group already offers central building blocks for secure communication and digital independence and covers the entire spectrum for the development and operation of sovereign and resilient IT infrastructures:

  • Heinlein SupportLinux and mail expertise in the data center, IT consulting, training and individual hosting.
  • mailbox: Secure, German provider for e-mail and a digital workplace.

  • OpenTalkModern and secure open source video conferencing solution.

  • OpenCloud: Sovereign, cloud-native solution for file management, file sharing & collaboration.

All products and services can be used flexibly, can be operated independently and stand for data protection, interoperability and long-term availability. They offer private individuals, companies and organizations the opportunity to keep their data in their own hands and reduce critical dependencies. In this way, the Heinlein Group is laying the foundations for a digital future that makes Europe independent of proprietary structures and provides long-term security.
